Herb Grinder Info

A  herb grinder or spice grinder is a round contraption used for hand grinding herbs and spices. The two piece herb grinder has two halves (top and bottom) that separate and have sharp teeth or pegs aligned in such a way that when both are turned back and forth, material placed inside is ground up, shredded or pulverized.

There are also three and four piece herb grinders, the three piece has a fine screen separating the bottom compartment from the top and the four piece has its own screen chamber . This allows fine particles such as spice pollen to pass through, but blocks and stores larger material. Both have a collecting chamber at the bottom.

5 piece grinders are becoming very popular, and  include a second fine screen to further separate "pollen" or other tiny plant matter.

Herb grinders are often used to prepare spices and cooking herbs for culinary preparation. They are also used to prepare tobacco, as well as other legal herbs.

There are many brands and quality levels of herb grinders. Space Case Grinders or Spacecase, are known to be the best quality but are sold at very high price points. In the last few years Sharpstone brand herb grinders have risen to the top in the herb grinder market, because it offers quality similar to the space case herb grinder but sells for about 75% less.  The Sharp Stone Grinder also comes with a pollen scraper and protective pouch.

There are also Quality no brand herb grinders that are very good quality at even lower prices.

A herb grinder (also called a "spice grinder", or just a "grinder") is a cylindrical contraption with two halves (top and bottom) that separate and have sharp teeth or pegs aligned in such a way that when both halves are turned, material placed inside is effectively shredded.
Some grinders also have two or three compartments instead of just one, with a fine screen separating the bottom compartment from the top. This allows fine particles such as pollen to pass through, but blocks larger plant material.
Grinders called "four-stages" are also popular. "Four-stages" are similar to regular grinders, but include a second fine screen to further separate "pollen" or other tiny plant matter.
There are also 5 stages grinders by many manufacturers now for making snuff, and most are using an anodized process to coat the raw material they are made from.
Herb grinders are often used to prepare spices and cooking herbs for culinary preparation. They are also used to prepare tobacco, marijuana, and other herbs.
The most prevalent use of these multi-part grinders is for making tobacco snuff. Snuff is produced when tobacco is ground into a fine powder. If you are only trying out snuff, you could break open an ordinary cigarette and grind the tobacco from that, although you should remember that this may be full of chemicals. It is preferred to use a natural tobacco for grinding. Snuff is growing in popularity because it can be used in places where smoking is forbidden such as an airplane or restaurant.A herb grinder (also called a "spice grinder", or just a "grinder") is a cylindrical contraption with two halves (top and bottom) that separate and have sharp teeth or pegs aligned in such a way that when both halves are turned, material placed inside is effectively shredded. Some grinders also have two or three compartments instead of just one, with a fine screen separating the bottom compartment from the top.
